This year Nova Scotia saw the largest recorded wildfires in provincial history, including the Barrington Lake fire in Shelburne County, which covered 230 square kilometres at its height. In response to the wildfires, the Nova Scotia Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture (NSDFA) announced in August that the province would be providing a one-time grant of $2,500 to licensed aquaculture operators, harvesting businesses fishing under an official license and licensed fish buyers and processors which were directly impacted by the wildfires.

Cooke Aquaculture Inc. has warned the public of scammers impersonating Cooke employees through fake offers of employment. “Cooke has received several reports of persons falsely claiming to work for Cooke on social media and recruitment platforms such as LinkedIn and Indeed,” reads a news release from the company.

The Washington State Salmon Recovery Funding Board and the Puget Sound Partnership are investing US$81.5 million in recovering at-risk salmon species. In a press release on Sept. 18, the Washington Recreation and Conservation Office announced the award of 150 grants in 29 counties toward barrier removals for migrating salmon, tree-planting to shade rivers and improvement of stream habitat.
