Salmon skin research discovers wound healing cells

BMC Biology, a peer-reviewed scientific research journal, has published a paper on the transcriptomic characterization of transitioning cell types in the skin of Atlantic salmon. The researchers have identified a unique group of skin cells in Atlantic salmon that aid the progression of wound healing.


EPA approves first fish farm in U.S. federal waters

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a permit that allows the first industrial-scale fish farm to begin operating in U.S. waters. The U.S. pilot project, the Velella Epsilon, was stalled for six years.


Research finds potential solution against enteric redmouth in trout

Vetagro, an Italian-based animal biotechnology company is collaborating with Canadian aquaculture research centre, Onda, on a research initiative evaluating microencapsulated phytogenics for their efficacy against Yersinia ruckeri, a bacteria known to cause enteric redmouth disease. It is commonly found in rainbow trout farming.
