Bakery Showcase May 14-15 in Vancouver will celebrate the best of the West! The annual Baking Association of Canada trade show and conference will bring together bakers from across Canada and beyond, with a special spotlight on British Columbia!

Allow us to introduce some of the talented and successful bakers, entrepreneurs and pizza artists working in B.C. that will be in the spotlight at Showcase!

Adam Christie is owner and operator with partner Jess of Working Culture Bread, a neighbourhood bread and coffee shop in Rock Bay, Victoria. Cass Helps and Dayle Kennedy, co-founders of Tall Shadow Breads, live and bake bread in East Vancouver, specializing in using organic grains and a slow fermentation process.

Babette Kourelos is owner of Babette’s Bread in Langley, teacher of sourdough breadmaking techniques, judge at the Tiptree World Bread Awards and cookbook author. Mary Mackay is co-owner and vice-president of innovation at Terra Breads, where she has led the team since the bakery’s establishment 30 years ago.

Navkinderjit Sidhu is an instructor at Vancouver Community College’s baking and pastry program and owner of Sugar and Spice Bakeshop. Mark Burton, founder of Best Kind Bakershop, is also a baking and pastry instructor at Vancouver Community College.

Matt Cimon is president at Portofino Bakery, based in Victoria, and one of Canada’s fasted growing commercial artisan bakeries. Michelle Reid supports the growth and nurturing of the B Corp movement in her role as the Community Engagement and Activation Lead for B Lab US/Canada.

Suzanne Fielden is co-founder with her husband, Dominic Fielden, of the award-winning family farm-to-pizza restaurant Rocky Mountain Flatbread. Marzia Molatore, known as Mamma Marzia and based in Langley, teaches Italian cuisine through her business Bella Cibo and wrote a successful cookbook. Steven Che, partner in Wild Flour Pizza Co., in Burnaby, B.C., earned second place in the Canadian Pizza Chef of the Year Competition in 2022. Andy Finlayson, owner of 70 Pizzeria/Rebellious Tomato in North Vancouver, competed alongside Steven, placing third!

Our very special guest, Bruno Feldeisen, is a world-renowned chef, cookbook author and judge on CBC's Great Canadian Baking Show. Zoya Thawer, doctor, talented amateur baker and Great Canadian Baking Showfinalist, calls Victoria home.

Reaching back to his roots as owner of Orange Boot Bakery, Mark Dyck created and hosts Rise Up! The Baker Podcast, and Bakers4Bakers.org – two excellent forums for grassroots bakers.

Professional pizza makers from Vancouver and surrounding area will compete to be our next Chef of the Year West at the exciting Canadian Pizza Chef of the Year Competitions. And, an exciting Mother’s Day Celebration Student Cake-Decorating Competition sponsored by Dawn Foods will showcase talented baking and pastry students from Vancouver Community College and Vancouver Island University – tomorrow’s professional bakers!
