Subject control is multi-faceted, meaning many variables must be considered once an officer has decided to engage a subject hands-on. Considerations such as being able to transition to force options within close quarters, as well as to evade, reposition and transition to response options at a distance, should all be included. Given the ever-changing nature of subject control and use-of-force, no single martial art can indeed be the perfect solution for either an officer or a police academy training program.
