Winnipeg to host smart cities exhibition during World Police and Fire Games

Through a recent federal investment, the World Police and Fire Games 2023 Host Society will host a smart cities technology exhibition on emergency services. It will bring police, fire and civic leaders, as well as experts, industry representatives, and businesses together to discuss how digital technologies and data sharing can enhance the quality of emergency services and cost reduction.


B.C. expands mental health injury access

Emergency dispatchers, nurses and care aides in British Columbia will soon have easier access to workers’ compensation for mental-health disorders associated to their work.


Case Law • Breaching recognizance mens rea is objective

In a 4:1 opinion, B.C.’s highest court has ruled the mens rea component of breaching a recognizance of bail is objective. In other words, the Crown need not prove subjective intent to ground a conviction.
