A veteran criminologist has been tabbed to head a panel on implementing an alternative system to solitary confinement. Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale named Anthony Doob, professor emeritus at the University of Toronto, as chair of the new advisory panel.

Ottawa is putting up tens of millions of dollars to fight human trafficking in the hope that more victims will come forward and there will be more successful prosecutions of offenders. The government said the funding will support measures that include adding resources to the Canada Border Services Agency, the development of a national case management standard and the appointment of a special adviser on the issue.

All the big—and medium, small, even virtual—guns were out last weekend in Mississauga, Ont. for TACCOM, heralded as Canada’s largest firearms show. Organized by Firearms Outlet Canada Inc., TACCOM is credited as a mini version of the popular Shot Show, the world’s biggest tradeshow for the shooting, hunting and firearms industry.
