Cognitive apprenticeship in police training

More emphasis needs to be placed on the development of critical and analytical thinking skills in attempting to address the future training needs of police officers. Unfortunately, some police training has not progressed enough in order to address this increasingly complex role. One of the ways to enhance this is ensuring the curriculum is designed with a constructivist principled approach.

British Columbia’s top court has ruled evidence may be constitutionally seized under the plain view doctrine if it is in the open when the police are lawfully present where it is visible, and lawfully exercising police duties.

Ottawa Police Interim Chief Steve Bell released a statement, noting the service is mourning the death of death of Const. Thomas Roberts. Toronto police said they are also investigating the death of one of their officers. Additionally, CBC reported a Canada Border Services Agency officer was found dead in Terminal 3 of Toronto’s Pearson International Airport. Rest in peace to all. » Read more

Building the first RCMP sweat lodge

RCMP Cpl. De-Anne Sack is a policing analyst for H Division in Nova Scotia, a member of Sipekne'katik First Nation and a Sundancer. She was the driving force behind erecting a sweat lodge at the RCMP’s headquarters in Halifax last fall, which provides employees “a place for thought and contemplation.” She tells Blue Line she’s proud of the RCMP for supporting the initiative. » Read more
