Manitoba government eases shopping restrictions, tightens cannabis law

The Progressive Conservative government in Manitoba introduced two bills at the end of last week to fulfil some of the key promises from this year’s election campaign. One would lift restrictions on stores opening on Sundays and holidays, with the exception of Remembrance Day, when hours will continue to be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The second bill introduced would expand the province’s ban on smoking and vaping recreational cannabis in public places to also cover edible products, oils and other formats.


Saskatoon says it has recovered all of the $1 million lost in scam

The City of Saskatoon says it is on track to recover all of the money it lost in an online scam earlier this year. The city lost $1 million when a fraudster electronically impersonated the chief financial officer of a construction company that had a contract with the city. The culprit asked to have a payment sent to a new bank account and the city complied.


Military member accused of running illegal marijuana oil lab

A Canadian Armed Forces member in British Columbia has been charged with allegedly operating an illegal marijuana-oil extraction lab, which police in other jurisdictions have linked to a number of dangerous home fires and explosions.
