The Toronto Police Services Board has announced Deputy Chief James Ramer as interim chief of police in Ontario’s capital in the wake of Chief Mark Saunders’ retirement news. The board has also decided to “commence a comprehensive procurement process to select a firm that will help conduct the search process for next chief.”

Uppala Chandrasekera, who’s also co-chair of the board’s mental-health advisory committee, said people need community-based options that include social workers, peer workers and mental health and addictions workers.

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) marked the death of Const. Daniel Woodall with a small ceremony at his grave five years after he was killed in the line of duty. Three wreaths were laid at his grave on behalf of the EPS, Edmonton Police Association, and the Woodall Family.
