The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police is requesting an urgent meeting with Canada’s premiers to discuss bail reform and the recent killings of officers. In a letter to Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson, association president Danny Smyth says there has been a link in the rise of violence by people released on bail since changes in legislation were brought in four years ago.

The Winnipeg police homicide unit is investigating the death of a First Nations woman as suspicious after her body was found in a city landfill. Police say the remains of Linda Mary Beardy, 33, were found Monday afternoon by staff at the Brady landfill in south Winnipeg and notified police.

Anik Dennie didn’t always know she wanted to be a police officer. In fact, when she left high school, she followed the path of academia, first earning her bachelor’s degree in health promotion, then her master’s in human kinetics, where she learned a lot about the preventative aspects of health. Near the end of her undergraduate studies, Dennie started volunteering with the Greater Sudbury Police Service’s (GSPS) diversity and inclusion committee as a community member. “I had never really thought about a career in policing before this,” she says. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is topical these days, and rightfully so. ASD prevalence is rising exponentially globally. Researchers wrestle with explaining this uptick, and most suggestions oscillate between 1) environmental and cultural influences and 2) expanding diagnostic criteria, earlier age at diagnosis, and increased awareness of ASD. Here in the Great White North, the National ASD Monitoring System indicates that one in 66 children are autistic. Interestingly, males are four times more likely than females to be diagnosed with ASD. By Thomas Leydier.

A toxic organizational culture may elicit bullying and other forms of harassment, and whether intentional or unintentional, the impact of this toxicity may lead to mental health issues and, worst case, suicide.
