Firearm access by at-risk people

The overall contribution of people with serious mental illness to violent crimes is only about three to four per cent, and most individuals diagnosed with a serious mental health disorder are no more likely to commit an act of violence (with or without a firearm) than the general population. However, individuals with the most severe psychiatric diseases are at a heightened risk for violent behaviour when untreated for their symptoms.
