OPP officer and school bus driver die in crash northwest of Woodstock, police say

An Ontario Provincial Police officer and a school bus driver died in a crash northwest of Woodstock, Ont., on Monday. Provincial police said there were no students on the bus and no passengers in the officer’s unmarked vehicle at the time of the crash, which took place a little before 7 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 59 and Oxford County Road 33.


Manitoba government implements successful pilot project with Winnipeg Police Service to improve responses to non-charge domestic incident calls

A 2021 project piloted by the Manitoba government and the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) to better support families experiencing intimate partner violence through the co-location of specialized staff from Manitoba Justice at WPS headquarters to facilitate a more co-ordinated response has proven effective and will be implemented permanently, Justice Minister Kelvin Goertzen announced today.


Public safety minister announces funding for Akwesasne after migrant deaths

The federal government announced funding to help the Akwesasne Mohawk Territory fight organized crime, after the death of eight migrants in the St. Lawrence River earlier this year. Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino was in the community Thursday where he announced more than $12 million for policing and other initiatives over the next five years.


Several Ontario police forces target street racing, say activity is on the rise

Several police forces in Ontario say they will be working together to crack down on street racing, which they say has been on the rise. Police across the Greater Toronto Area, as well as Ontario Provincial Police and forces in Waterloo and Barrie are part of the operation – dubbed Project Erase – that will use enforcement and education to combat the issue.


Mike Duheme’s ceremonial swearing-in as 25th Commissioner of the RCMP

RCMP Commissioner Mike Duheme’s Change of Command ceremony took place today at the Salaberry Armoury in Gatineau, Quebec. The ceremony marks the symbolic handover of authority from outgoing Commissioner Brenda Lucki to incoming Commissioner Mike Duheme.
