Years ago, policing was a career people entered as a cadet around age 18. They’d graduate and soon begin serving as an officer, retiring around the age of 50. A 30-year commitment was expected. Officers were put through the rigours of basic training and were then assigned to a coach officer for a few weeks, depending on the policing organization.
