Grande Prairie hires first police chief

The Grande Prairie Police Service has found its new police chief after city council ratified the police commission’s decision to hire Dwayne Lakusta for the role at Monday’s regular council meeting on July 10. Lakusta will begin the role of Grande Prairie’s first police chief on August 28.


Recognition of First Nations rights a ‘sticking’ point in new policing law plan: AFN

Julie McGregor updated chiefs gathered in Halifax on work to develop a law that would declare policing on First Nations an essential service – something Indigenous leaders have spent years calling for.
