Alberta is introducing new measures to make sure Albertans feel secure and protected in their communities. Targeted prosecution units in Alberta’s major urban centres will help address deteriorating safety and keep Albertans safe from those who commit violent crimes.


Mounties eyeing change to recreational cannabis use policy for members

The RCMP is looking at easing a policy that requires front-line officers and many other employees to refrain from recreational cannabis use for four weeks before duty. A change to the five-year-old policy could bolster recruitment of new officers by bringing the Mounties in line with police forces that have much less restrictive policies on pot use.


Sault Police Constable in fatal off-duty collision

On Sep. 5, 2023, Constable Orrette Robinson died in an off-duty motor vehicle collision. Orrette was 36 years old. While driving home on his motorcycle after working an overtime dynamic patrol shift, he was involved in a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Lyons Avenue and Farwell Terrace. The driver of the other vehicle did not require medical attention.
