Nova Scotia municipal police chiefs question province's shift to expand RCMP coverage

In an interview Wednesday, Ryan Leil, chief of the New Glasgow Regional Police, said the existing model is working for the 10 municipalities in the province that have their own police force. “We feel that centralizing policing is the opposite direction than what we should be looking at.”


Crime severity index dropped four per cent last year, Statistics Canada says

The national statistics agency says the volume and severity of police-reported crime in Canada decreased four per cent last year, after three annual increases in a row. Statistics Canada says non-violent crime had a significant effect on the decline in the overall crime severity index in 2024.
