Auto theft sees sharp drop in first half of 2025, industry association says

Équité Association said in a report released Monday that the number of vehicles reported stolen nationally dropped 19.1 per cent in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. Just over 23,000 vehicles were reported stolen in the first six months of the year in Canada, the report said.

The Military Police Complaints Commission will hold public hearings to investigate what happened during a botched active-shooter drill on a Canadian Forces base last fall that reportedly left an employee injured and traumatized.


RCMP may need to review training involving Indigenous people, B.C. watchdog says

B.C.’s Independent Investigations Office released a report this month detailing what led up to Alphonse taking his own life, suggesting RCMP policy or training may need to change to better respond to calls involving Indigenous people after complaints that police actions were more forceful than necessary.


Quebec police watchdog investigating fatal shooting by Nunavik Police Service

Quebec’s police watchdog is investigating after Nunavik police shot and killed a person in Inukjuak, Que. late Thursday. The death marks the third fatal shooting involving the Nunavik Police Service since November 2024.
