Canadian wood pellets: key to a sustainable future

Under the Paris Climate Agreement, Canada committed to reducing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 30 per cent below 2005 levels by 2030. But about 90 per cent of Canadian wood pellet are exported to other countries, while the domestic market in Canada remains small.

During the 2020 WPAC Conference & AGM on Sept. 22, Jamie Stephen, Ph.D., founder and managing director of TorchLight BioResources, will discuss the significant contribution wood pellets could make in helping Canada meet its climate obligations, suggest policy options for the Canadian and provincial governments to support the use of solid biofuels, and more.

Jason Fisher, vice-president of fibre for Pinnacle Renewable Energy, will also speak about the communications campaign that WPAC has embarked on to showcase Canadian wood pellets as responsibly produced, renewable, clean energy.

As Canada moves ahead towards a more sustainable future, it’s more important than ever that the public and government understands the benefits of using wood pellets.
