A look inside Shaw Resources Belledune pellet operation

Shaw Resources’ 100,000 tonne per-year industrial pellet plant in Belledune, N.B., mixes softwood, hardwood and bark to produce industrial pellets for U.K. utility Drax. A new PDI dryer was installed last October to increase the plant’s drying capacity.

Dryer fire damages Skeena BioEnergy pellet plant

A small fire broke out in the new Skeena BioEnergy pellet plant in Terrace, B.C., on May 25. The fire started on the belt of the sawmill’s flatbed dryer. Safety monitoring technology detected the fire early in the morning and extinguished it.


Update: Pinnacle investigates cause of dryer explosion and fire at Entwistle

Pinnacle Renewable Energy suspended operations at its Entwistle, Alta., facility following a fire that damaged the dryer area in February, and has been working with Alberta OHS to understand the factors that led to the fire.
