Ontario unveils forest sector strategy, including a ‘Forest Biomass Action Plan’

The Ontario government last week released its forest sector strategy. To help improve the industry’s cost competitiveness, the government is developing a Forest Biomass Action Plan to maximize the use of mill by-products, among other actions.


Port of Montreal strike ends after 12 days

Workers have returned to the Port of Montreal after a 12-day strike ended with a truce on Aug. 21. The deal between longshore workers and management will last until March 20, 2021, so that talks can resume without further work interruptions.


Saskatchewan company turning flax straw into biomass fuel

Prairie Clean Energy (PCE), based in Regina, Sask., has developed a process for turning Saskatchewan flax straw, which is often burned or trashed, into biomass fuel. The company is now processing and selling flax straw for biomass fuel domestically and internationally.


Gevo, Trafigura sign contract for low-carbon gas and SAF

Under this contract Trafigura is expected to take delivery of 25MPGY of renewable hydrocarbons, the majority of which is expected to be low-carbon premium gasoline with a smaller portion of the volume for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), starting in 2023.


AEM survey: COVID-19 takes toll on Canadian equipment manufacturers

According to a survey released by the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), nearly half (47 per cent) of equipment manufacturers in Canada surveyed said it will take a year or more for their organizations to recover to pre-COVID business levels.
