Biogas and RNG projects currently reduce eight megatonnes of greenhouse gas pollution. A combination of new policies could deliver 26.7 megatonnes of emission reductions in 2030, meaning biogas & RNG could be instrumental for hitting Canada’s 2030 climate targets.

The project is currently in Phase 1 of development which is expected to produce 80,000 gigajoules of RNG annually and will be complete by Q3 2022. Phase 2 will add an additional 60,000 gigajoules of RNG annually for a total of 140,000 gigajoules annually.

A pilot plant has been operational in Copenhagen for several months and a novel gas monitoring technology has enabled the optimization of plant efficiency. Commenting on the performance of the monitoring equipment, Jens Jørsboe says: “We have been delighted with the accuracy and reliability of the multigas probes; not least because they have enabled us to learn a great deal about the management of flue gas from waste incineration.”
