Deep Sky launches carbon removal innovation centre in Western Canada

Deep Sky, a Montreal-based carbon removal project developer, is launching a $50-million carbon removal innovation and commercialization centre on the other side of the country. Deep Sky Labs, planned for Innisfail, Alta., represents an industry first for the private development of scalable carbon dioxide removal (CDR).


Bison Low Carbon Ventures wins initial Alberta carbon storage agreement

Calgary-based Bison Low Carbon Ventures Inc. is a step closer to capturing carbon as Alberta looks to lead diversification of Canada’s energy sector. Bison’s Meadowbrook Carbon Storage Hub — one of six projects selected by the province’s Energy and Minerals Department to explore carbon capture ­— has completed its evaluation phase and won an initial 15,360-hectare carbon sequestration agreement.


Industrial byproducts upcycler Rain Carbon launches Hamilton innovation hub

Rain Carbon Inc., a Dover, Del.-based upcycler of industrial byproducts, will build a 30,000-sq. ft. industrial research and development facility in Hamilton, Ont. The new Rain Innovation Center for Energy Storage Materials will include a demonstration facility, allowing pilot-scale processing of carbon and carbon precursor materials, and laboratories dedicated to the carbon material analysis with analytical and electrochemical testing equipment.

Clean Fuel Fund helping transition Nova Scotia industries to biofuels, biomass

Nova Scotia will spend $3 million to help its industries transition to cleaner fuels, including biofuels and wood biomass. The province is taking another round of applications for its Clean Fuels Fund so industries, businesses and communities can switch to low-carbon and renewable fuels. The fund helps replace traditional fuels with cleaner fuels for heating, transportation and industrial processes.
