Former Cape Breton firefighters to enter pleas in November

Two former Cape Breton firefighters, facing multiple arson charges, are to return to provincial court in November to enter pleas. Stephen Tremblett is charged with 13 counts of arson while James MacDonald is facing 16. >> Read full article

Nova Scotia services review to be released next month

A review of provincial fire services is to be made public in November. Members of the steering commitee consisting of members from the Fire Services Association of Nova Scotia, the Association of Municipal Administrators and the Union of Nova Scotia Municipalities met with Pomas, the consultant hired by the Department of Municipal Affairs, to conduct the review. >> Read full article

Update: Charges laid in Toronto rooming house fire

A woman is facing charges in connection to a fire on Oct. 11 that left one firefighter with serious injuries. While fighting the blaze, a 19-year veteran of the fire department lost consciousness and had to be pulled from the home. An investigation by the Office of the Fire Marshal found “numerous violations of the Ontario Fire Code,” and according to police, the building was being run as an illegal rooming house. >> Read full article

Victoria woman rescued from construction crane

Firefighters in Victoria, B.C., performed a high-angle rescue of a woman who climbed a 30-metre construction crane with two companions. Firefighters secured her in a rescue suit and stretcher with safety lines, and lowered her along the outside of the crane. The climbers are facing charges. >> Read full article

Antique store fire claims man’s life

A man died after being dragged from a blaze in Qualicum Beach, B.C. Firefighters found the store owner during the secondary sweep of the building, and successfully resuscitated him with CPR, however he died awaiting air transport to hospital. >> Read full article

Fatal fire leaves one student dead

Windsor, Ont., Fire and Rescue has reported a 19-year old man, studying at the University of Windsor, died in a west-end house fire on Wednesday. Five people were taken to hospital with smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is still unknown. >> Read full article
