Firefighters are still working to contain a wildfire about 40 kilometres northwest of Quesnel, B.C., near Pantage Lake. According to fire information officer Natasha Broznitsky, as of 8 a.m. Wednesday morning, the 168-hectare fire had been 55 per cent contained.

A Winnipeg firefighter was treated in hospital after exposure to a substance believed to be fentanyl last Wednesday. Firefighters responded to a report of an unconscious driver in a vehicle and one firefighter who came into contact with the patient immediately began displaying symptoms of opioid poisoning. The firefighter was taken to hospital, treated and released; however, the firefighter has not yet returned to work.

Nearly two weeks after a massive fire at a recycling facility in downtown Toronto, firefighters were once again called to the area around 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday. When crews arrived, they found two small, smoldering fires, which were quickly extinguished.

The Ontario Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management is investigating a suspicious fire that burned down a barn in Cayuga, Ont., Tuesday night. Haldimand County OPP were patrolling in the area of Highway 3 around 10 p.m., when an officer noticed a large amount of smoke coming from a property. Haldimand County Fire responded and quickly extinguished the blaze, which was contained to the barn.

Six people were displaced in Surrey, B.C., after two homes caught fire Thursday morning. The fire started behind one house just after 1 a.m. and quickly spread to an adjacent home. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is to be investigated.
