Fire-service equipment provider MSA announced Wednesday it is buying gear maker Globe in a $215-million, all-cash deal. The acquisition expands MSA's line of firefighting equipment; the companies said in a press release Wednesday morning that there is no product overlap. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter.

Police have laid two more sexual assault charges against former Kingsville, Ont., fire chief Bob Kissner. Kissner now faces 17 charges including 11 counts of sexual assault, five counts of sexual exploitation and one count of sexual interference in relation to multiple victims.

Council in Owen Sound, Ont., has rejected union grievances related to shit-trade procedures. The union claims Chief Doug Barfoot violated terms of the collective agreement for contracting out but council is backing the chief. The union will present further grievances to council on July 24.

Criminal accusations have been stayed against 63 firefighters who were charged in connection with the ransacking of Montreal city hall three summers ago. A Crown prosecutor told Quebec Court Judge Lori Renee Weitzman that in exchange for the stay of proceedings, each person charged has agreed to pay fines totaling more than $71,000.

A fire that destroyed a historic church in Cochrane, Alta., had been deemed arson, after a fire investigation by the Municipal District of Bighorn. The McDougall Stoney Mission Church had stood for 142 years before it burned to the ground on May 22.

Brant County, Ont., has named Mike Seth as its new fire chief. Seth began his career in emergency services as a paramedic with Brant County, eventually becoming chief with the City of Thorold in southwestern Ontario. Seth will begin his new position on July 10.
