Fiery crash on Highway 400 kills at least three

At least three people have died in a 14-vehicle pileup on Highway 400 near Cookstown, Ont., that caused a massive fireball on Tuesday night.


Fatal crash highlights first responder mental health risks

As first responders searched for bodies in the wreckage of a deadly Ontario highway crash, one expert warned that such traumatic experiences place them at an increased risk of suicide and other mental health crises. Vince Savoia of the Tema Conter Memorial Trust told The Canadian Press events like the Highway 400 crash can contribute to the mental strain that places first responders at an elevated risk of self-harm.


Man arrested following Quebec City apartment building fire

A 60-year-old man has been arrested for arson after about 75 residents were evacuated from a Quebec City apartment building Sunday night. More than 50 firefighters were called in to battle the flames at the north-end building.


Woman dies in Whitby apartment fire

A 52-year-old woman is dead after an apartment fire in Whitby, Ont., on Tuesday night. Durham Regional Police Service told the Toronto Star the blaze started around 7 p.m. The Office of the Fire Marshal is investigating the cause.
