Chilliwack department issues warnings after 2 outdoor fires

The fire department in Chilliwack, B.C., issued a public warning to dispose of fuel containers after responding to two back-to-back outdoor fires in less than three hours on Tuesday. The causes of both fires are under investigation.


Bill 148 could raise Ottawa Fire’s budget by millions

Ottawa Fire Services’ budget may rise significantly if the Ontario government passes a proposed bill, aimed at creating fair working conditions. Bill 148, or the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, could raise labour costs for the city’s 485 volunteer firefighters by as much as $13.3 million, according to an estimate from the Association of Municipalities of Ontario.


26 tenants escape Moncton apartment building fire

At least 26 tenants had to leave their Moncton, N.B., apartment building after a fire on Tuesday morning. The fire, which broke out around 10:30 a.m., was confined to one unit on the top floor of the four-storey building.


Elderly man dies in St. John’s house fire

A man in his 90s died in an early morning house fire northeast of St. John's on Tuesday. CBC News reported that fire crews from three stations responded to the fire just after 12 a.m. The St. John's Regional Fire Department told CBC the heat was too intense for members to enter the home and attack the flames.
