Didsbury chief steps down after volunteer resignations

Fire Chief Craig Martin stepped down Monday after half his crew in Didsbury, Alta., quit in protest over what they're calling "safety concerns." During the past few months, 15 of the 31 volunteer firefighters from the department have resigned from their on-call positions.


Vancouver union calls for more firefighters per shift

Vancouver firefighters say they’re short-staffed when compared with “industry best practices” and need another 21 firefighters per shift or 84 altogether. Vancouver Firefighters Union spokesperson Lee Lax says there were 200 more fires last year over 2016 and they responded to 6,200 overdoses.


Firefighters call for higher fines for motorists driving over hoses

The Vancouver Fire Department says $81 and penalty points are not enough to fine drivers for motoring over their hoses. Vancouver’s fire chief wants to see the province increase fines because it puts their members’ safety at risk.
