A Kingston Fire and Rescue captain has beat out 25 other applicants to become the Town of Renfrew, Ont.’s, new fire chief. Renfrew town council on Tuesday agreed to hire Kevin Welsh, who has been with Kingston Fire and Rescue for the past 24 years. He said he’s looking forward to working with the “incredible team” in Renfrew.

Hamilton, Ont., firefighters were called to National Steelcar for an early morning blaze Sunday, Dec. 16. Fire officials believe a spark ignited combustible materials in the company’s dust collection system.

A house fire in Regina sent one adult and two children to hospital Tuesday afternoon. Crews were called to the area just after noon. It took firefighters well over an hour to fight the fire and they remained on scene throughout the day putting out hot spots.
