Air quality alert issued for Hay River amidst landfill fire

The Town of Hay River, N.W.T., declared a "local state of emergency" over a fire at the Hay River landfill. In a press release the town said the local fire department has been managing a subsurface fire at the landfill since Mar. 3, but that it flared up Saturday, Mar. 9.


Corner Brook revises out-of-jurisdiction response policy

The Corner Brook Fire Department in N.L. now has a clearer idea of how it is to handle emergency calls that come in from outside its jurisdiction. The city approved a revised out-of-jurisdiction policy for the department during a public meeting of city council.


Ontario fire marshal wants to promote safety and diversity

Jon Pegg, Ontario’s newly installed fire marshal, says he’s excited about working to protect firefighters and the public and promoting diversity in the fire service. Pegg took over the helm on Feb. 20, replacing Ross Nichols who retired. He is no stranger to public fire and life safety, as he has been chief of emergency management for the Province of Ontario for the past eight months.
