Stoney Nakoda Fire Department disbands

The Stoney Nakoda Fire Department in Alberta is no longer responding to emergency calls on the First Nation reserve after its fire chief unexpectedly resigned last week, leaving 3,700 residents vulnerable to emergencies.


Vernon ordered to reinstate employees fired for sexual activity in fire chief's office

A B.C. arbitration board has ordered the City of Vernon to reinstate two employees who were fired last year after they were caught having sexual relations in the fire chief's office.


Volunteer departments can apply for free turnout gear

The 2019 application period for MSA’s annual Globe Gear Giveaway is now open. Thirteen fire departments will each receive four sets of new, state-of-the-art turnout gear, for a total of 52 sets. The program is a partnership of Globe by MSA, DuPont Protection Solutions and the National Volunteer Fire Council.
