Canadian Firefighter joins forces with FSWO

Annex Business Media has announced a new partnership between Canadian Firefighter and Fire Service Women Ontario. All FSWO members will receive a free subscription to Canadian Firefighter magazine, as well as special offers in the Firehall Bookstore. Female firefighters sought for study

Female firefighters from the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Australia, and elsewhere are being sought to participate in a research study conducted by the University of British Columbia in Canada. The purpose of this study is to describe the incidence and circumstances of cancer and work-related injury among female firefighters.


B.C. wildfire season expected to be busier than normal

After back-to-back, record-breaking wildfire seasons in British Columbia, firefighters are gearing up for another severe fire season. In a 2019 wildfire season outlook released by the provincial government, drought conditions, above average temperatures and “significantly” lower-than-average snowpack levels combined indicate a “busier than normal season.”

Nanaimo firefighters tackle disposal centre blaze

Materials burned up but the building wasn’t damaged in a fire at a disposal centre in south Nanaimo, B.C., on Tuesday night. Nanaimo Fire Rescue crews were called out at 11:45 p.m. to DBL Disposal Services Ltd. to find a pile of materials on fire close to the back of the building. » Read more

Fire destroys Mississauga duplex

A Mississauga, Ont., duplex has been destroyed after fire broke out Tuesday morning. Emergency crews were called to the scene just after 11 a.m. A van parked in the driveway was also destroyed in the fire. » Read more

Blaze forces evacuation of hotel at Winnipeg airport
