Nova Scotia announces $300,000 memorial grant for first responder families

Nova Scotia families of first responders who die as a result of their duties can receive a $300,000 memorial grant to recognize their loved one's sacrifice and service.


Former volunteer firefighter acquitted of arson

A former volunteer firefighter with the Lappe Fire Department in Thunder Bay, Ont., has been found not guilty of arson for a fire that destroyed a vacant home. Cody Plummer was acquitted from charges of arson and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.


Wage increase negotiations settled for Saskatoon firefighters

The City of Saskatoon and the union representing fire department employees managed to settle on terms for a four-year contract without arbitration. Firefighters and other department workers will receive five wage increases totalling 8.1 per cent over the four-year deal, which covers 2017 through to the end of next year.
