Free Local Hero Support Program launches for first responders

Trafalgar Addiction Treatment Centres is rolling out its Local Hero Support Program, which will provide up to 50 free residential treatment spaces each year to first responders who don't have access to care. The 30-day program treats concurrent addiction and mental health disorders.


Saskatoon firefighters now have non-opioid medication to treat trauma pain

The Saskatoon Fire Department has added a new medication to its emergency response kit – Penthrox, a non-opioid gaseous drug used for pain relief.


Cape Breton firefighters ratify new contract

The CBRM’s career firefighters have voted to accept a new contract with the municipality. Jody Wrathall, president of the local 2779 chapter of the International Association of Firefighters (IAF), said members voted 84 per cent in favour of ratifying the eight-year deal that was hammered out earlier this month by negotiators representing the firefighters’ union and the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.
