A review of Ontario’s Kingsville Fire Department (KFD) following a harrowing water rescue in September saw 22 recommendations put forward to improve the service. On Monday, council received the report from the current Amherstburg Fire Chief, and former Windsor Fire Chief, Bruce Montone, which laid out recommendations to establish a unified command, improve training and update policies.

The approval of a zoning bylaw amendment for Waubaushene, Ont., would allow for a fire fighting academy to be built in a Tay Township hamlet. The application put toward public consultation Wednesday evening is seeking to add “private career college” as a site-specific permitted use on the property located at 36 Hazel St., which is presently zoned institutional. The new use is to facilitate the land to be used for a firefighting training and education facility by Southwest Fire Academy (SFA).

Getting hired in the fire service is not an easy process. Many people have that desire to become a firefighter, but for whatever reason cannot put the pieces together to make it a reality.
This book will assist future firefighters specifically prepare for a career in the fire service. This book is not the one-size-fits-all book to becoming a firefighter. There is just not enough room to accomplish that.

The Search and Rescue for Autism program offers a unique technical training opportunity for firefighters. There are eight different trainings that bring valuable information to the broader fire service. They are designed to be comprehensive, appeal to the many different backgrounds coming into search and rescue and will help first responders identify neurodiversity.

Given the VUCA — volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous — world in which we live, stress is a predictable outcome. For firefighters, whose work environment is characterized by unpredictable schedules, events, and emergencies as well as erratic sleep and eating patterns, the effects of stress are significant. Stress leaves people vulnerable to negative physical, mental, and behavioral issues. Worse, too much stress causes the immune system to shut down.

Hamilton, Ont., Department says no one was hurt in a blaze at a residential home on the Mountain Tuesday afternoon. Assistant Deputy Chief Carla MacDonald said crews responded to a structure fire call just after 4 p.m. at 563 Queen Victoria Drive.
