Kitchener council approves new deal with firefighters

Those working in fire services in Kitchener, Ont., will be receiving a bit of a wage boost. In a release, the city said council approved a two-year agreement with the Kitchener Professional Firefighters Association on Monday. Kitchener Today reports.


Dundalk Fire Department invests grant in training alternatives

Dundalk, Ont., Southgate Council approved the use of the $6,400 provincial grant for one laptop to be used for training at the Dundalk fire hall, and for two items to be shared with Hanover and Grey Highlands. Yahoo News reports.


West Kootenay volunteer firefighter wins $100K scholarship

In West Kootenay, B.C., a 17-year-old student who doubles as a volunteer firefighter has won Canada’s largest merit-based undergraduate award. Tala MacDonald, a Grade 12 student at Mount Sentinel Secondary School located between Castlegar and Nelson, is one of just 30 people out of over 6,000 applicants to win the $100,000 Loran Award.
