Manitoba government adds new cancers to presumptive list for firefighters

The Manitoba government is amending the Workers Compensation Act (WCA) to include coverage for five additional cancers to the list of presumptive cancers, pertaining to firefighters and at-risk personnel in the Manitoba Fire Commissioners Office, becoming a national leader in taking this step to protect Manitobans on the front lines, Premier Heather Stefanson announced on Nov. 26.


Labrador chief cautions residents following Christmas tree fire

In Newfoundland and Labrador, The Labrador City Fire Chief is urging caution this holiday season after a Christmas tree fire broke out over the weekend. Just before noon on Nov. 27, Labrador City Fire Rescue responded to a fire on Beverly Crescent where an artificial Christmas tree had caught ablaze due to a power surge in the area.


No injuries reported after fire at Waterloo, Ont., student residence

An investigation is underway after a fire was reported at a student residence in Waterloo, Ont. At around 7:40 p.m. Monday, emergency services responded to a small fire inside the apartment building at 328 Regina St. N., also known as Bridgeport House.


Fire destroys 135-year-old church in Tay Township

A historic church in Tay Township, Ont., was destroyed by fire Monday morning. Crews arrived on the scene just after 4 a.m. to find the 135-year-old Ebenezer United Church engulfed.
