Alberta crews preparing as wildfire season officially begins

Despite snow on the ground and freezing temperatures, Alberta’s wildfire season officially started on Tuesday and the government is preparing for the season by hiring hundreds of staff including firefighters, weather specialists and fire behaviour analysts.


Tax credit changes for volunteer firefighters in Nova Scotia extended

Nova Scotia will ensure all volunteer firefighters who responded to at least 20 per cent of emergency calls in 2021 will be eligible for a $500 refundable tax credit.


Calgary announces new mixed-use fire hall

The City of Calgary has announced plans to build a new fire hall in the community of Inglewood. The mixed-use fire station will be built on 11th Avenue S.E. between 12th Street and 11th Street S.E., across the street from Cold Garden and Ol’ Beautiful Brewing.


Fire breaks out at Winnipeg school undergoing renovations

One Transcona-area school will be closed on Wednesday due to a fire. Winnipeg crews were on scene Tuesday evening battling a fire at Westview School, which is under renovation.
