B.C. adds $180 million to help communities prepare for natural disasters

In B.C., the New Democrat government will almost double the current funding of its Community Emergency Preparedness Fund, adding $180 million to support projects that help communities and First Nations prepare for and mitigate the effects of natural disasters.

Southeastern N.B. had a rash of fires. Officials know many of them were no accident

According to a briefing note prepared by the fire marshal, obtained by the CBC through a right to information and protection of privacy request, 57 per cent of the fires in Southeastern N.B., between 2019 and 2022, were considered to be “incendiary,” compared to a provincial average of 35 per cent.

Ride-along with Saskatoon Fire Department shows scope of homelessness

Saskatoon Fire Department’s Assistant Chief Yvonne Raymer said the fire department uses a “proactive approach,” regularly checking in with the inadequately housed to learn their reasons for not being in a shelter or permanent housing. Raymer said her officers had around 600 such interactions in December alone.

Joint fire services assessment between Town of Georgina and Town of East Gwillimbury identifies opportunities for shared services

In Ontario, the towns of Georgina and East Gwillimbury announced a joint fire services assessment in 2022, which included an update to both municipal Fire Master Plans, options for service efficiencies and a review of the potential to consolidate the two departments.
