Toronto Fire Services celebrate graduation of 51 new operations firefighters

Toronto welcomed 51 frontline operations firefighters at a graduation ceremony on Friday. The recruits graduated from their intensive, 18-week training program with National Fire Protection Association and received the professional qualifications as operations firefighters, fire prevention inspectors and public educators.


Four volunteer firefighters sent to hospital during water rescue training

The Ministry of Labour and the Office of the Fire Marshal are investigating after four volunteer firefighters were transported to hospital during a swift water rescue training course that took place north of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. earlier this month.


Vancouver council gives fire and police departments millions to address budget shortfalls

Vancouver city council voted Tuesday to give the Vancouver Police Department and Vancouver Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) millions of dollars to make up for budget shortfalls related to payroll expenses. VFRS sought an additional $5.86 million to cover staff benefit shortfalls and overtime.


Police investigating arson after third fire this month at Collingwood tire shop

An arson investigation is underway after a fire broke out at a Collingwood tire business for the third time this month. Fire and emergency crews responded to the Tire Guys at 9477 Beachwood Road for reports of tires on fire just after 5 a.m. Sunday.
