Ontario to give out $5,000 bonuses to wildland firefighters

Ontario plans to give front-line wildland firefighters and pilots a $5,000 bonus and make 100 of those jobs permanent in an effort to recruit and retain more workers. But the union representing those fire rangers says it’s little more than a drop in the bucket and will not fix the “dire and ongoing crisis.”


U of T researcher’s data-driven platform aims to predict when emergencies will happen

A University of Toronto researcher is working with Edmonton Fire Rescue Services and Telus to predict when emergencies are likely to occur in Alberta’s second largest city.


NAW buys used truck for fire department

North Algona Wilberforce Township is proceeding with the purchase of a used – demonstration model – 2022 RAM 1500 truck at a cost of $75,000. The vehicle will be used by the fire department and the purchase was planned for in 2024 with $65,000 set aside in the budget for the replacement.


Cassidy retires after 46 years with South Bruce Fire Rescue

Deputy Chief Keith Cassidy has retired from South Bruce Fire Rescue after 46 years with the Teeswater and South Bruce fire departments. As stated in Fire Chief Guy Gallant’s report, “Chief Cassidy started in 1977 and is estimated to have responded to over 4,000 calls for assistance during his career."


City and Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services launch public awareness campaign

“STOP THE BLEED is a public awareness campaign across Canada and the U.S. that stems from the tragic school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in 2012,” says Greg Adair, Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services (LFES) Chief.
