Ontario plans to give front-line wildland firefighters and pilots a $5,000 bonus and make 100 of those jobs permanent in an effort to recruit and retain more workers. Deputy Chief Keith Cassidy has retired from South Bruce Fire Rescue after 46 years with the Teeswater and South Bruce fire departments. As stated in Fire Chief Guy Gallant’s report, “Chief Cassidy started in 1977 and is estimated to have responded to over 4,000 calls for assistance during his career."
