District of Clearwater approves new wildfire mitigation and initial attack crews

The district of Clearwater is pursuing two initiatives aimed at improving community safety and wildfire resilience: the establishment of the Clearwater Fire Department Initial Attack (FDIA) Crew and the expansion of the FireSmart Fuel Mitigation Crew.


Ontario prepared for wildfire season, beginning April 1

With wildfire season set to begin on April 1, the province of Ontario is prepared to response. This year, the government has filled nearly 100 additional permanent positions to support the 2025 fire season and help ensure people and resources are in place to protect communities.


Parkland County named provincial leader in wildfire prevention

Parkland County is now one of the leading Alberta communities in wildfire prevention, with the number of Advanced FireSmart Home Assessments completed by the Parkland County Fire Services team increased by 127 per cent in 2024 over the previous year.


Vernon Fire Rescue hosts WUI fire training in preparation for wildfire season

Vernon Fire Rescue Services hosted wildland fire fighting training for firefighters across the Interior from March 25 to 28. The program, which blended classroom instruction with realistic fire response scenarios, focused on enhancing firefighters’ skills to manage wildland fires, particularly in complex WUI areas, the city reported in a press release.
