Higher prices help offset impacts of softwood lumber duties

Canada's lumber industry has been able to survive the impacts of preliminary duties, largely thanks to soaring lumber prices. While industry production will remain virtually flat this year, industry revenues are on pace to grow by 8 per cent, according to The Conference Board of Canada's Canadian Industrial Outlook: Wood Products Manufacturing – Autumn 2017.


NAHB reports market to expand in 2018

Builder confidence in the market for newly-built single-family homes increased five points to a level of 74 in December on the National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI) after a downwardly revised November reading. This was the highest report since July 1999, over 18 years ago, the National Association of Home Builders said.


Forest industry answers caribou policies critic

Kate Lindsay is the Forest Products Association of Canada's vice-president of sustainability and environmental partnerships. She recently wrote a Letter to the Editor which was published in The Chronicle-Journal in response to an opinion piece criticizing the forest industry's views on saving caribou populations while still implementing sustainable forestry practices.
