Canfor reports high operating earnings in 2018 despite Q4 losses

Canfor generated strong financial results in 2018 with reported operating income of $608.6 million. But in Q4, the company reported an operating loss of $79.1 million due to lower North American lumber consumption, excess supply and other factors.


Housing starts down 11.2 per cent in December

Multifamily starts fell 20.4 per cent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 320,000 units while single-family production posted a 6.7 per cent decline to 758,000 units. However, single-family and multifamily starts each posted a yearly gain.
