Here’s how many BC sawmills have taken downtime so far

Hardly a week goes by that we’re not hearing of new sawmill curtailments or closures in B.C. For those wondering about the extent of the situation, here’s a list of the mills that have been affected thus far this year.


Canfor to permanently close Vavenby sawmill

“Due to the current and long-term log supply constraints we face in the Vavenby region, along with the high cost of fibre, we have made the very difficult decision to permanently close the sawmill and sell the associated forest tenure to Interfor,” said Don Kayne, President and CEO, Canfor.


Teal Jones shuts down second growth harvesting on Vancouver Island

Teal Jones has announced that, effective immediately, second growth harvesting will be shut down at its Honeymoon Bay – TFL46 operation due to excessive stumpage rates.
