New Brunswick updates lumber market system

The province has updated the system for calculating sales to sawmills from private woodlots, which helps set royalties paid for timber from Crown land. The change fixes a “major irritant” that was part of the reason for U.S. tariffs on softwood lumber.

U.S. single-family construction continues dramatic climb

Single-family starts showed continued growth in September as overall housing production increased 1.9 per cent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.42 million units.
