Survey snippet 12: The benefits of being a logger

If you’ve ever asked anyone who works in forestry why they enjoy the job, two out of three times the answer will be the ability to work outdoors. The results of CFI’s 2020 Contractor Survey reinforce this: 66 per cent say the No. 1 perk of being a logger is working in the woods.


Feds mandate use of ELDs, FPInnovations named first certification body

“FPInnovations understands the importance of the electronic logging device mandate and is ready and committed to helping improve road safety in Canada by taking up the challenge of certifying these devices,” said Glen Légère, senior director at the Fibre Supply Innovation Centre of Excellence, FPInnovations, in a statement.


Bill to update Alberta’s Forests Act passes first reading

The new Growing Alberta’s Forest Sector Amendment Act, 2020 would modernize the existing Forests Act – which hasn’t been updated since 1971 – to meet the current realities of Alberta’s forest sector.


Canfor reports record-high lumber earnings in Q3 2020

For Q3 2020, the company reported operating income of $299.6 million, up $202.7 million from Q2 2020, reflecting a marked increase in lumber segment earnings.
