Final Cut: FSC Canada’s endorsement of the BC First Nations Forest Strategy a step forward

In February this year, FSC Canada announced its endorsement of the Forest Strategy to support the engagement of all parties in its implementation, particularly the B.C. government. This move is a “key step forward,” writes FSC Canada’s Monika Patel.

BC sets out plan to modernize forestry regulations

The provincial government says the proposed changes to forestry policy will help address the dwindling fibre supply and promote value-added wood products such as mass timber. Proposed changes include a compensatory framework to redistribute forest tenures to Indigenous Nations, forest communities and small operators.

Northern Pulp submits new project plan to Nova Scotia

Northern Pulp has delivered a new proposal to the government of Nova Scotia that parent company Paper Excellence Canada says “dramatically improves” its previous effluent treatment plan.

COFI praises BC gov’s plan to modernize forest policy

“We appreciate the province’s desire to work collaboratively to ensure healthy forests, create more opportunities for Indigenous people and communities, sustain good jobs for British Columbians and deliver low carbon forest products to the world,” said COFI president and CEO Susan Yurkovich in a statement.
