BC court denies extension of Fairy Creek injunction

The court cited the RCMP’s ways of enforcing the injunction as damaging to the court’s reputation. In his decision, Supreme Court Justice Douglas Thompson wrote that “The factors weighing in favour of extension do not outweigh the public interest in protecting the court from the risk of further depreciation of its reputation.”


Teal Jones to appeal BC court’s decision not to extend Fairy Creek injunction

“We will be continuing to peacefully pursue our forestry activities in Tree Farm License 46. We expect all individuals will maintain the peace, and allow legal activities to continue. We condemn all acts of unlawful violence and aggression, and call upon protest organizers to do the same,” said Teal Jones in a statement.


BCFNFC to study role of mentorship in advancing First Nations forestry workforce

The BC First Nations Forestry Council’s research project will examine employment practices within the B.C. forest sector to inform an inclusive and culturally-aware mentorship framework that, in part, models itself to First Nations’ practices.


Tolko, Pelican Lake, Witchekan Lake First Nations launch Kitaskinaw Enterprises

Kitaskinaw will initially focus on the development of a logging company with long-term growth in harvesting, biomass, and silviculture. This includes training for Indigenous youth and women in both forestry and mill positions.
